The Erotic Library and Archives of Maine supports erotic scholarship and sexuality research in the rural communities of Maine and beyond.

Modest but thoughtful, the collection comprises an sprawling array of analog material, from vintage pornography to academic theory: books, magazines, zines, and other printed ephemera showcasing the oceanic diversity of human sexuality and its worthiness as an intellectual and aesthetic subject. By preserving the histories and cultures of niche sexual practices and expressions, the collection celebrates the enduring power of erotic imagination.

The Erotic Library and Archives of Maine was founded in 2026 on the belief that the study of sex should not be limited to those in culturally-resourced urban centers. The collection is accessible by appointment to all exploratory minds, writers, artists, and scholars, with a particular emphasis on serving the queer rural populations of Northern New England.
